"Henny"

Our little Henry has grown so much in his tenth month. He is walking quite a bit and getting into everything. Case in point this picture. I turn my back for all of ten seconds and all the wipes have been pulled out of the box one by one. He is concentrating so hard here that he didn't even mind being photographed in the midst of his project.
At least he wasn't eating/sucking on them as he's been known to do. You'd think I would learn my lesson and move the wipes out of reach.
This picture is for you Grams and Dog. Henry is sporting his K-state sneakers and I wanted to be sure and post a picture for you before he outgrows them. There is just something irresistibly cute about a beefy baby boy in a onesie.
Couldn't you just eat this little guy up?
Maggie has been enjoying play-doh time so much lately. She loves to make shapes and letters. On this particular occasion she wanted to make some "D's" for Daddy. And they made perfect glasses.

The Green Adventure

When you are a stay at home mom coming up with random things to do sometimes can be a challenge. There are other moms out there just like me and if you are in Charlotte here is a fun idea for you and your fam. This is actually not my idea, but my friend Melissa's. These pictures are also from her camera. Anywas the adventure goes like this, park at Uptown Church and walk over to the "trolley" stop (really it is a bus that looks like a trolley called the gold rush). Board the free transportation option and take it to the middle of Uptown and de-board at Trade and Tryon and then walk over to the Green. The Green is a cool little place in the middle of Uptown and during the winter months there is ice skating, our own little Rockefellar. But, in the summer months the fountains are a nice hot spot, pun intended. Don't forget your picnic and enjoy the cool water and green lawn for a lovely day.

Henry loving it.
Buddy lunch break.
I like to imagine they were saying, "our moms are the best for bringing us here, let's elbow bump about it."
A little frolicking never hurt anybody.

How old are you?

So Maggie slept in until about 9am this morning. That is pretty late for a toddler if you ask this mom. I tried to get her to get up earlier so that she could join us for a family breakfast but she declined. I went into her room first to see if she was awake and softly called to her. She was none to pleased and said "no I go night night," and pulled the covers back over her head. So, I gave her an alternative. I said okay well when you are ready come on down I'll leave the door open for you (which she could open by herself if she wanted...but I'm trying to entice here.) I started down the stairs and when I reached the bottom I heard a door shut. Was Mags on her way down for breakfast? No, she had slammed the door and gotten back into bed. I mean do we have a two year old or a thirteen year old living under our roof, I can't remember?

cute story

Today we drove to Mount Ulla for church so that Tyler could preach for a pastor that was out of town. After church we decided to hit McDonalds for a quick lunch before heading back to Charlotte for naps. Maggie is a big fan of Mickey D's and after we announced that we would be going there for lunch our conversation went a little like this...
Tyler: Would you like to go to McDonalds for lunch?
Maggie: Yes! (said with much enthusiasm)
Tyler: Ok well we're going to go.
Maggie: Daddy you a bum.
Tyler: umm what?
-Pause-
Carrie: Maggie did you say Daddy is a bum?
Maggie: no...a bum
Carrie: (I have a light bulb moment bc we used a similar phrase yesterday) Ohh....do you mean Daddy is the bomb?
Maggie: yes!!! Daddy you a bum.

accessorizing

Maggie is really into dressing up these days and she has gotten very creative with it. Today she put some big foamy puzzle pieces around her neck and declared them her necklace. As if that wasn't cute enough...
This little guy crawled into the kitchen where I was with some "necklaces" of his own. I'm sure if he could talk he'd be thanking his big sister for helping him look so good.

Sunday Fun

Last Sunday we headed to Columbia to visit with family at Grandma Dot's house. It was a monumental day for Henry as he took his first steps with Uncle John. We got to visit with some of our Texas family members too. And we got to see how much baby Trooper had grown in just two weeks (sadly no pics). At the end of the evening Maggie tried out for the family band using her mad harmonica skills.
We are such a close family that we don't even have to call each other to coordinate wearing matching orange shirts.

Baby Boy for Big Brother

Congratulations Peter and Megan!
My big brother Peter and my sister in law Megan welcomed their first baby into the world last tuesday, Glenn Peter Zaepfel III "Trooper". They couldn't have planned his arrival better (for me anywas). I was planning on making a trip to Columbia on wednesday because Tyler was headed to Atlanta for an RUF conference. When we heard Trooper was on his way we decided to leave tuesday night instead so we could meet this little man ASAP! Well, so I could meet this little guy a.s.a.p, cousin introductions took place the following day. With Trooper joining the "Zaepfel" clan the grandbaby tally for my folks is now four under two with one on the way. My parents are in grandparent heaven. The Lord is so so good!
Me, My brother Peter and sister Christine and sweet little Trooper.
I think he really looks like my brother in this picture. I wish I had a baby picture to post of Peter they look a lot alike in this particular picture. Don't you think mom?
The chaotic cousin introductions. Megan and Peter were good sports as we piled all the kids into their tiny hospital room to meet Trooper.

Trooper is in the nursery behind the proud grandparents. He was being given the royal treatment as he was the only one in the nursery. From left to right, Megan's dad Brent, Poppa, Grandma and Grandma Dot.
