up to speed

So, a lot has happened since my last post. There have been two birthdays, one bridal shower and a very fun package recieved in the past week or two. I am posting a lot of pictures and I will do by best to explain them. Enjoy.
Daddy celebrated a birthday! Maggie was a big help in opening gifts. We had a nice quiet evening together as a family.
I made an amazing cake...it read "happy birthday daddy" not "happy birthday david" as the birthday boy originally thought. But, I am sure there is a David out there too celebrating a birthday right now, and to you we wish a very happy birthday as well.
This is my cousin Stewart and his wife Katie, they had the great honor of babysitting Maggie while we went out to celebrate Tyler's birthday grown-up style. They did a tremendous job and Maggie was heartbroken the next morning when she woke up and they were gone.
Tyler jointly celebrated the big day with my Grandma who's b-day is jan. 26th (tyler's is the 28th) and we went to a fabulous German resteraunt that honored the pair with a green cake and dessert wine. Here is a picture of the two toasting to another tremendous birthday. And, no we don't know those peeps at the end of the table, but we assume that in Germany the custom is to bring in the new birthday year with a stranger or two. Good luck perhaps.
While we were in Columbia we had the pleasure of meeting my good buddy Emily's fiance', Justin. We give him a hardy stamp of approval and love the fact that they both have red hair. Can we say "cute babies." We also threw them a bridal shower at my parent's home. It was a lot of fun!
Yesterday Maggie received a Valentine's package from her grandparents in Kansas. As you can see she is quite taken with these mysterious goodies. Thanks Grams and Dog!
And, finally here she is today sporting her new outfit. What a fashion queen!

ode to Lucy (and her mommy and daddy)

Our friends the McCanns are heading to Costa Rica very soon for language school and then after that they will be heading to Honduras to be missionaries. We have truly been blessed by this family and by the example they have shown us of what a family looks like that loves the Lord even to the point of giving up all their worldly possesions. They are leaving their family, friends, home and comfort all for the advancement of the kingdom and for the love of their sweet Saviour. We are humbled by the sacrifice this family has made to follow the Lord's calling on their lives. You all are dear friends and we will miss you terribly.

The girls really were sad about saying goodbye, as you can see. I wanted to join them and did several times.

You wanted more blog well here is a gift from me to you. I haven't taken any pictures in a while, so I will step it up this week and get back to you with Maggie pics, but this should tide you over for a while. I may not have many pictures, but here is a video of Maggie eating my apple (supervised of course... this is a first).

ps I don't know anything about this group, I stole it from the Chapells blog (but what I do know is that I wish I could dance like that).

Christmas with the Z's

Sorry I am a little late in posting these Christmas pictures, but better late than never right? Well, here we are in Columbia with my folks for a little New Year's/Christmas fun. The fun lasted about one day however, because 6 out of 11 of us came down with an aweful stomach bug, which had us all wretching our ways through the remainder of the holidays. Here are a few photos snapped before we all became bedridden (not sure if that is one word).
These gifts are a result of an ole' Zaepfel tradition called Zonking. Dad and I "zonked" each other. I gave my dad a beaver golf cover...you know to cover the woods..tee hee. These animals are my dad's arch nemesis, you see my folks live on a lake and beavers have already chopped down two apple trees in the back yard (dam it). My dad is not a big fan.
One of many gifts given to Maggie this Christmas was a shiny new pony. Now, Maggie doesn't even have to learn to walk because she can ride anywhere on her new horse!
I had to add this one photo bc it is Maggie's first snow encounter in Kansas. Isn't she a little snow bunny?
And of course here we are in our shorts back at home.
